Isaiah 58v1-12
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to lose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”
Lent is a journey towards Easter. We expect to be somewhere else when we arrive. What are we going to give up or take on for Lent?
A sign of lament: the imposition of ashes
Traditionally the ashes are made out of the ash burnt from last year’s palm crosses mixed with olive oil. We put an ash cross on one another’s foreheads and say the words
“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”
We share the unsettling Peace with one another:
The unsettling peace of the Lord be always with you:
And also with you.

و هر یوغی را بشکنم؟
آنگاه نور تو مانند سپیده دم طلوع خواهد کرد
و شفای شما به سرعت ظاهر خواهد شد. آنگاه عدالت تو پیش روی تو خواهد رفت،
و جلال خداوند نگهبان شما خواهد بود.»
روزه سفری به سوی عید پاک است. انتظار داریم وقتی رسیدیم جای دیگری باشیم. برای روزه چه چیزی را رها کنیم یا به عهده بگیریم؟
نشانه زاری: تحمیل خاکستر
به طور سنتی خاکستر از خاکستر سوخته شده از صلیب خرما در سال گذشته مخلوط با روغن زیتون تهیه می شود. ما یک صلیب خاکستر روی پیشانی یکدیگر می گذاریم و کلمات را می گوییم
«به یاد داشته باش که تو خاکی و به خاک باز خواهی گشت»
ما صلح ناراحت کننده را با یکدیگر به اشتراک می گذاریم:
آرامش ناخوشایند خداوند همیشه با شما باشد:
و همچنین با شما.
ما امروز از خاک توبه لکه دار از یکدیگر رخصت می گیریم
ما بیرون خواهیم رفت تا در بخشش خدا شریک شویم
ما بیرون خواهیم رفت تا شفا بیاوریم، تا به کسانی که توسط قدرتمندان پایمال شده اند، فیض بدهیم.
ما بیرون خواهیم رفت تا در کنار کسانی که بی عدالتی را تجربه می کنند بایستیم تا صلح و آشتی روح را با جهان به اشتراک بگذاریم.
ما را به بیابان جهان برانید،
جایی که هرج و مرج وجود دارد و زمین آسیب دیده است و مردم آسیب می بینند.
