23 Comme ils criaient, jetaient leurs manteaux et jetaient de la poussière en l'air, 24 le tribun ordonna qu'on conduise Paul dans la forteresse. Il ordonna qu'on le fouette et qu'on l'interroge afin de savoir pourquoi le peuple criait ainsi contre lui. 25 Alors qu'ils l'étendaient pour le fouetter, Paul dit au centurion qui se tenait là : « Est-il permis de fouetter un citoyen romain qui n'a même pas été reconnu coupable ? »

۲۳ در حالی که فریاد می‌زدند و خرقه‌های خود را بیرون می‌اندازند و خاک را به هوا می‌پاشیدند، ۲۴ فرمانده دستور داد که پولس را به سربازخانه ببرند. دستور داد شلاق بزنند و بازجویی کنند تا بفهمند چرا مردم اینطور بر سر او فریاد می زنند. 25 چون او را دراز کردند تا شلاق بزنند، پولس به صدیقی که آنجا ایستاده بود گفت: «آیا برای تو قانونی است که یک شهروند رومی را که حتی گناهکار شناخته نشده است، شلاق بزنی؟»
