Prayers 21st/22nd October 2021,

When the lights are on
and the house is full
and laughter is easy and all is well... Behold I stand at the door and knock.

When the lights are low
and the house is still
and the talk is intense
and the air is full of wondering... Behold I stand at the door and knock.

When the lights are off
and the house is sad
and the voice troubled
and nothing seems right
Behold I stand at the door and knock.

And today,
Always today,
As if there were no other people,
No other house,
No other door...
Behold I stand at the door and knock

Come, Lord Jesus be out guest,
stay with us for the day is beginning/ending
with friend, with stranger,
with neighbour, and the well known ones, be among us tonight

For the doors of our house we open
And the doors of our hearts we leave ajar.

We say the Lord’s Prayer in our own language

Psalm 55

And this, my best friend, betrayed their best friends;
betrayed their word.
All my life I’ve been charmed by their speech,
never dreaming they would turn on me.
Their words, which were music to my ears,
turned to daggers in my heart.

We pray for all those we know who need our help and prayers who we carry in our hearts today. For Afghans, for Syria, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Belarus, Ethiopia, Yemen, Gaza, our burning world and those dealing with the fires, for politicians to act on climate change, for all with Covid today and their families, doctors and nurses, carers, teachers, those confronting injustice, for the many refugees, our own country, our families and friends and ourselves. Spirit of the Living God be present with us.  Let your angels be beside us at this time. In Jesus Name we pray.

This is the day that God has made

I will rejoice and be glad in it

I will not offer to God

Offerings that cost me nothing

I will go in Peace

To love and serve the Lord

Amen
