Evening Prayers October 18th 2020,

We stand

Against injustice

We hope for a better world

Where everyone is housed

And fed

A world of abundance

Bless us on that journey

Song “I will wait for you”

You entrusted the earth to us

And we have destroyed it

The forests are burning

Animals are dying

Our world is sick

Forgive us

Restore our vision and help us to act bravely to save this precious world

We say the Lord’s Prayer in our own language

Reading Psalm 1

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Our prayers

We pray tonight for those in lockdown, for children and teaching staff, for doctors and health workers, for people who are isolated and exhausted, for wise decisions by government, for the people of Belarus, Syria, Yemen, Armenia, Thailand, Nigeria and Hong Kong, for the unrest in the US and the chaos in the UK and for those countries we never hear about, and those we know who need our help and prayers and who we carry in our hearts tonight.

Send you Spirit to heal bodies, minds and spirits and help people to turn away from what harms them. Let your angels be beside them and us at this time and protect us. In Jesus Name we pray.

Closing Responses

In the depth of silence

No words are needed

We are just called to listen

To the movement of the Spirit

And in the midst of confusion

To hear your voice.

 Amen.
