Evening Prayers May 31st 2020

God of Spirit and fire
We remember today those
Caught up in a cycle of destruction and violence
God of passion and justice
We pray for all those working for justice in our communities
Bridging the gap
Between the powerful and the vulnerable

Song “You don’t love God if you don’t love your neighbour”

We utter our prayers in humility
Before God
Who revives our faltering Spirits

We say the Lord’s Prayer in our own language

Reading Acts 10v17-23
17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.
Prayers

God of peace and shalom
We carry with us the prayers of those who need healing
Both mental and physical
In our families, our friends, our communities
And we name them before you.

Spirit of the Living God present with us now enter their bodies, minds and spirits and heal them of all that harms them. Let your angels be beside them at this time. In Jesus Name we pray.

Song “God I look to you”

Put fire in our hearts, and sends us the Spirit
To renew our hopes and dreams
And remind us that a new way is always possible
In life, in death and beyond death
God is with us.
Amen.
