Creator God, you are the true Vine and Gardener or our lives, we thank you for the richness of the Earth, for the colours and textures of the Sky, Sea and land, you surround us with your love for the Earth to have sunshine and rain to produce growth.
We thank you for your loving care that manages our lives, for those times when you have to dig deep in us and turn over our hard and barren hearts that holds the complacencies and prejudices that stunt growth within us and others.
Rake over and remove the weeds of sin that strangle the young green shoots of truth and love, within each of us Lord.
We have within us a place to empty and compost the darkness of our heart where there is a blight of apathy and a state of inaction toward others, grant us an attitude to care when we are in danger of becoming self–centred, remove the rot Lord, so we can become good soil where you can make us bloom and flourish.
Forgive us Lord, when we prefer to stay in the shade, rather than coming into your light, grant us a heart of compassion, and forgive our stubborn and foolish ways.
You are the Vine and we are the branches grant us patience as you prune us with your love; lop off those branches which hinder your work in us, and to see the harder the cut, greater the yield to become good fruit, rich in fullness and ready to serve you.
Thank you Lord, for being a loving diligent Gardener in the loose freshly dug places of our hearts; sow your seeds of truth and light on the falling leaves, and shower us with your warming sunshine, so that we will not fall on stony ground and die, but can grow, and develop to become hardy and strong.
Redeem our hearts and lives Lord, so that we can become your eternal harvest, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christ the Light, the Love, the Peace, the way and the Vine.
Lord, you are the Light that the darkness can never conquer. Pour your light into the darkness of this world, so that people can see better ways of solving problems.
Pour your light into the confusion of the pandemic, so that people can see new strategies and opportunities.
Pour your light into us, your children, for we ourselves are part of the darkness.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, you are the Love that casts out fear.
Pour your love into the hearts of all of us who lose our temper and are sometimes tempted.
Pour your love into the hearts of all who have been abandoned or let down and who vow they will never love again.
Pour your love into the troubled minds of those suffering mental instability and who do not know which voice to obey.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, you are the Peace that the world cannot give. Pour your peace into the United Kingdom and its Cabinet Office, that healing may be the goal of their work, and peace and altruism the method of getting there.
Pour your peace into the soul of this community in which we live, so that people may believe the rumour that you are alive.
Pour your peace into our own hearts as we try to live out our heavenly citizenship in this land.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, you are the way that leads to Father. Show your way through the problems that we face currently, namely Covid-19. Show your way to those who are seeking a life of meaning and integrity, but who have not yet looked to you.
Show your way to us here, that we in this congregation may know the next steps in our pilgrimage of faith together.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord you are the Vine, whose branches we are.
We pray for those we know who belong to this part of the vine but are at present having a difficult time, for whatever reason. We pray for all our friends and families on our prayer list- all who are affected by Covid 19. We pray that they may receive your healing touch.
Lord, you are the Resurrection and the Life and we are your people. Take these our prayers and answer them in your own good way in the power that flows from your risen presence. We ask this in the joy of our faith. Amen.

JESUS THE TRUE VINE
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable to you our Rock and our Redeemer.
Jesus Christ is the Vine, the true vine. Believers are the branches of this Vine. There are many branches of the vine; all are but the one vine. The more fruit that we bear, the more we abound in what is good and the more our Lord is glorified.
If we as Christians believe that we can produce fruit by ourselves; we should think again. We can only produce good fruit in abundance when we remain part of the vine. We are interdependent on each other but more importantly, dependent upon CHRIST; who binds us all together to be his eyes, ears, heart, hands and feet. We who belong to the Vine will face attack by those who do not understand, do not want to understand or do not believe or want to believe; they are the devil’s advocates and they are really good at their vocation. The devil’s advocate- an advocate, one who is by your side- think of your solicitor or your barrister who represents you in court; that’s how good they are. (1 Peter 5:8- discipline yourselves; keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary, the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour). In the words of the late great Bob Marley from his song ‘who the cap fit’ ‘Hypocrites and parasites will come up and take a bite’. I am sure we have all experienced this at some time, the ‘Hypocrites and parasites coming up and taking a bite’ at us. We have to prepare ourselves for these attacks. We have to shield ourselves with the whole armour of God. There are times when we might notice that we are suffering, and non-believers are flourishing, especially with material things. We don’t know how they have achieved all their good fortune. I know that I have wondered how some people escape punishment with some of the behaviour that they display.
However, we must not concern ourselves with this distraction. It is not in our remit to occupy our minds with their conduct. We cannot afford for our faith to be wavering. We must not stray from the paths of righteousness. If we do then we have to be pruned. Our branch might have to be removed from the vine.
We are the branches and we must continue to bear good fruit by the way we live, the way we think, speak, our whole being. We need to support one another, we must never be frightened or embarrassed to admit that we are struggling. We must never be ashamed to say that we are CHRISTIANS, we must work for whatever is good and just. Some of us will say, I can’t do this or I can’t do that, and will list our infirmities! During this pandemic some of us have underlying issues: heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, other respiratory condition, to name but a few. But let’s start with ‘I CAN DO’- let’s have a can do attitude. Our starting point is prayer, because whatever our complaint; we can all pray. And prayer is the most powerful tool that we possess. The spirit of God is upon us and he has appointed us to do His good work. We have to accept the challenge and do His good work.
I close with some of the text from John 15: Jesus said ‘Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the Vine, you are the branches’. Amen.

(1 ਪਤਰਸ5: 8- ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਸ਼ਾਸਤ ਕਰੋ; ਚੌਕਸ ਰਹੋ. ਗਰਜਦੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ, ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਘੁੰਮਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਸੋਚਣਲਈ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ)). ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਾਣੇ ‘ਜੋ ਕਿ ਕੈਪ ਫਿੱਟ ਹੈ’ ਦੇ ਮਰਹੂਮ ਮਹਾਨ ਬੌਬ ਮਾਰਲੇ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ‘ਪਖੰਡੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਜੀਵੀ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੰਦੀ ਲਵੇਗਾ’। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਯਕੀਨ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਪਖੰਡੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਜੀਵੀਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਚੱਕ ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ’। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਮਲਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਏਗਾ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ withਾਲਣਾ ਹੈ. ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੇਖ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਹਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ੈਰ-ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸੀਵਧ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਖ਼ਾਸਕਰ ਪਦਾਰਥਕ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਨਾਲ. ਅਸੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ. ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂਹੈਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਲੂਕ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ.
ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ. ਇਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਾਲ-ਚਲਣਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਬਜ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਰੀਏ. ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਦੇ ਡਿੱਗਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ. ਸਾਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕਤਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗਾਂਤੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ. ਜੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਛਾਂਗਣਾ ਪਏਗਾ. ਸਾਡੀ ਸ਼ਾਖਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਲ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਾਉਣਾ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ.
