Evening Prayers

We call on the power of God
To meet us in our helplessness
God in our thinking
God in our speaking
We call on the clarity of God
To meet us in our confusion
We call on the mercy of God
To meet us in our brokenness
God in our meeting, God in our parting.

Song “Lord of all hopefulness”

We say the Lords Prayer in our own language

Prayer
We saw a stranger
And we put food in his bowl
Drink in his cup
Music in his ears
And he blessed us and our house and our loved ones

We pray tonight for all who need our help and prayers, for Frank, Flo, Roger and Nikky. For the family of Ernest Cruchley and the many others we carry in our hearts tonight.

A time of silence for our prayers

Reading Ephesians 5v8-14

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Song "O Lord hear my prayer"

Closing Responses

Night has fallen
Gracious Spirit Guard our sleeping
Darkness now has come
Gracious Spirit guard our sleeping
Now we go to rest
Gracious Spirit Guard our sleeping.
